How to Make Them a Wedding Gift They’ll Cherish Forever
I have said it before, and I’ll say it again; the best gifts are the ones you make yourself.
This is especially true for wedding gifts. We made this scrapbooked frame (Creative Memories Everyday Display) for some friends of ours who were getting married last summer.
It wasn’t very hard to do, but what made it special were a few of the details we chose to include. In the end, they loved it. We got a phone call from them after their honeymoon thanking us for it and telling us that they put it up in their new home.
Here are a few things you can do to give them a wedding gift they’ll cherish forever:
Make It! – While it is true that every newlywed needs and wants cash, appliances, and even Pyrex sets (we got 7 for our wedding!), those types of gifts will hardly leave a lasting impression. Rarely will they evoke more than an “aw, that was nice of them” response. A handmade gift will show them that they are important to you. The time you put into the gift speaks volumes about your feelings for them.
Add Details – If all you do is throw some pictures in photo corners and stick em on some patterned paper, you’ll probably still leave a good impression. It’s the thought that counts, right? But is that what you want? I don’t think so. You wouldn’t be here if you did. Carefully adding small, subtle details will show that you actually put some thought and effort into what you were doing; and that’s what makes the difference between “how sweet” and “WOW! I don’t believe it!”

| The black chipboard letters were kinda plain by themselves. By adding the pearl embellishments, it gave them a much more elegant look. I also added a thin white ribbon to the black ribbon to help offset it from the page. |
Customize It – The picture that we used in these examples was actually from their invitation. We were going to use it because it was the only picture we had of them (I had a picture of him with another girl from a double-date we went on, but I wasn’t going to use that!). But then we had a super-awesome idea; we took our camera and laptop with us, snapped a picture of them after the ceremony, photoshopped the colors to black and crème, printed it out, swapped it with the other picture, wrapped the gift, and had it all ready for the reception. That way, they had a totally unique, custom gift with a special memory from their actual wedding.
The Greatest Secret of All – Incorporate their wedding colors! We had a few people do this with our wedding gifts, and it absolutely blew us away. It’s so simple, yet it is probably the greatest thing you can do. Wedding colors are important to the couple (or, at least the bride). They chose them for a reason. When you use their wedding colors in your gift, they know you put tons of thought into it, that you were paying attention, and that you wanted them to love your gift.
With this gift, we were originally going to use pink and green with a white frame, but we realized that might not go with the color scheme of their house. So we chose a more traditional black and crème. However, we did incorporate their wedding colors when we wrapped the present, and it couldn’t have turned out any better!
We were so excited when we found the watermelon flavored pink and green suckers! Details, details, details...
The bright, beautiful colors and the large, gorgeous flower were perfect for a summer wedding. It looked so amazing; I honestly had a hard time giving it to them.
As I said before, cash is something every newlywed will appreciate. Crock-Pots are great too. But if you want to express your sincerity and love, there is nothing better than a custom frame from Creative Memories to help them find their happily ever after.
