3 Simple Scrapbooking Tips Every Beginner Needs to Know

by Clyde

Are you a scrapbooking beginner and have no idea where to start? Don't worry! I was in your shoes just over a year ago - and I'm a boy! The truth is, scrapbooking can seem very overwhelming for beginners, almost to the point where you considering tossing out your die cutter and going back to your old hobbies, like needlepoint...or gossiping.

Well, I'm here to tell you that if I can do it (even with my Y-chromosome), you can definitely do it. All you need is a good teacher. Fortunately, you have unlimited access to the same teacher I had – the world renowned, Brittney!

Here are three beginner scrapbooking tips to help you get started:

Look for inspiration – The cliché is as old as time; you don’t need to re-invent the wheel. Luckily, you’ve stumbled across this gem of a website. Subscribing to our BLOG will keep you informed every time we put up something new. That way, you can see what we have come up with, and, depending on your creativity reserves for the day, either copy them or use them as a springboard to launch you head-first into this magical new world.

Keep it simple – We will no doubt be talking about this more in the future. The best scrapbooking layouts are the creative, fun, cute, and above all, simple ones. The greatest skill you can develop as a scrapbooking beginner is self-control. When I first started, I couldn’t wait to start distressing and crimping, stamping, eyelet-ing, brad-ing, and especially, Cricut-ing (I love that machine!). I quickly learned though, that although it was fun, and even impressed some seasoned scrapbookers, my projects often seemed cluttered and way too busy. Just remember these famous words from the movie Nacho Libre, “Tay'kit Easeee!

Think it through – Don’t tell Brittney, but I got so frustrated with her when we first started scrapbooking together. She would get all excited, pull out all the tools, and then just sit there! I couldn’t believe it. 20 minutes would go by (a few times it was literally over an hour) and all she’d do is stare at the paper. I’d be wrapping up my project before she’d cut her first piece. And, as always, when we were finished, hers blew mine away!

No matter where you’re at with scrapbooking, remember that we’re here for you. Hopefully our ideas can give you some spark of inspiration. Simple beginner scrapbooking projects can be just as striking and just as rewarding as the most complex. And, remember, this is about having fun. For some of you, it’s the best therapist you can afford. Take your time and think it through. Now, let the scrapbooking begin!
